ATLANTA -- 11Alive morning anchor Karyn Greer can now add "author" to her long list of accomplishments.
More than two years ago, she quietly started work on a book designed to celebrate motherhood.
Thursday is the official launch of I Am a Mother.
"We all read What to Expect When You're Expecting, but then when that little life comes out, you don't know what to do," Karyn said. "There's no real book on how to be a mother."
So Karyn and her friend David Manuel wrote their own book. Together, they compiled stories from 52 mothers and the life lessons they've learned.
Some of the names are recognizable, like actress Jasmine Guy, who writes that her laughs are longer, her pain more profound because she's a mother.
Grammy-winner Regina Bell describes herself as a proud mother, but admits feeling regret for not having enough time to spend with her children.
Other names in the book are less familiar, but their stories of loss and love are just as inspiring.
Karyn knows -- in the book, she writes about facing her own challenge after her son Kyle was born.
"I miscarried at a point there, and didn't think I would ever have another children," she said.
Three years later, she gave birth to Tyler.
Karyn's boys are now 17 and 14, with Kyle heading off to college in the fall. But she is still their mommy.
"I think I've learned to be, as moms learn to be, more patient, more caring, more loving, more attentive because of those beautiful boys that I have," she said.
An I Am a Mother book signing and launch party will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at 200 Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.
