I-85 HOT lane price reaches all-time high

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- The price to travel on the Interstate 85 HOT lane through Gwinnett County soared Wednesday morning to an all-time high of $7.

Rates on the roadway increase during high traffic times. For nearly a half hour Wednesday -- 7:18 a.m. to 7:46 a.m. -- the variable pricing jumped to travel 16 miles along I-85 from Old Peachtree Road to Chamblee-Tucker Road.

"The rate reflected the high usage of the (southbound) Express Lane during the peak of this morning's rush hour commute," State Road and Tollway Authority spokesperson Adrian Carver said of the record-setting price. "With dynamically priced toll lanes such as the I-85 Express Lanes, toll rates rise as usage increases to promote a freer flow of traffic."

The rate also topped $7 Thursday morning.
