GBI working to identify body found in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working to identify a body found in south Cherokee County over the weekend.

The remains were discovered Saturday by two men searching for snakes.

Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said the medical examiner at the GBI Crime Lab has determined the remains belong to a black man, approximately 6 feet tall and between 27 and 53 years old.

A pair of red size-13 Adidas shoes, blue jeans, burgundy shorts and an expandable baton in a nylon case were found with the body.

Police have not determined how long the remains were in the woods.
