Ryan Stratis does pushups on the 11Alive morning show

ATLANTA -- It's one of the most popular shows on television right now.

This summer, three local contestants are trying to become the next American Ninja Warrior.

One of them, Ryan Stratis, stopped by 11Alive's station Thursday morning. He's already well-known in the ninja world, and has been on national television competing in the U.S. and Japan for five years now. You could say he's one of the best in the country.

According to Stratis, you have to train for a long time. It's not a last-minute decision.

While speaking with Ted Hall, Stratis did push-ups for two minutes, allowing us to get to know the Putney native a little more.

Stratis told us he got started through military training when he was 18 years old, and now he wants to beat the other competitors from Japan on the show.

"I don't like to think of myself as the best," Stratis said, "I'm still pretty humble, and I've been around a long time."

The athlete also works as a personal trainer, and really knows how to get someone in shape. To get connected with training from Ryan, visit his Facebook page

Things you might not know about Stratis from watching the show? His favorite color is green and his favorite ice cream is rocky road. However, what he cannot tell us is what happens next on the show.

American Ninja Warrior airs on NBC Mondays at 8:00 p.m.
