ATLANTA -- A consulting firm that did strategic planning for the King Center is now suing, saying it was never paid $216,000 for its work.
In a complaint filed July 30 in federal court in Atlanta, Nevada-based Strategic Decisions LLC says it was contacted by Martin King III, then CEO of the Martin Luther King Center for Nonviolent Social Change Inc., in the fall of 2010 and asked to provide strategic planning services. The firm says it agreed to work for a monthly rate of $15,000.
Its complaint states, "Strategic Decisions assisted The Center in clarifying its mission, hiring senior level executives, improving organizational performance, identifying opportunities for partnership and collaboration, and securing new funding, among other things."
But it says it hasn't received a single payment from the King Center.
Atlanta Business Chronicle reported in January 2012 on Martin King III's plan for a $100 million renovation of the 30-year-old facility as well as plans to preserve his father's legacy for generations to come. A short time later his sister, Bernice King, was named CEO of the King Center.
