Global Winter Wonderland to open near Turner Field

ATLANTA -- Even in the daylight, Atlanta's Global Winter Wonderland is stunning.

There are dozens of huge steel-frame structures that are covered with lights and silk.

"At night when the lights come out, we'll shine over Atlanta," said John Lin, CEO of IGO group, which brought the attraction to Atlanta for the first time this holiday season. "I'm trying to bring the world here to Atlanta for everybody."

The attraction covers 16 acres of the Green Lot next to Turner Field. 

The structures include replicas of the White House, Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the Martin Luther King Monument, London's Big Ben, Moscow's St. Basil's Cathedral, Chichen Itza, the Eiffel Tower, Syndey Opera House and Taj Mahal.  

The event started in the San Francisco Bay area two years ago. Organizers call it the largest lantern festival in the world.

"We started construction in June in China with a staff of over 150 people" said Lulu Hang, the creative force behind the attraction. "It took another two months and a staff of 60 here to put this together."

The dragon lantern alone took four days to assemble. It's made up of 50,000 pieces of China. 

There's a seven-story tree structure that has leaves made with 20,000 recycled bottles.

The Global Winter Wonderland will open from November 21 through January 5.

Tickets for Global Winter Wonderland are on sale now and available for purchase at www.globalwonderland.com or by calling 770-723-3862. 

Tickets are $24.99 for adults, $18.99 for seniors, and $16.99 for children. Season passes are also available at $43 for adults, $31 for seniors, and $28 for children. Children 4 and under are admitted free. 

Prices are inclusive of all the rides and live entertainment, to include the Universoul Circus.

Global Winter Wonderland will be open daily from 5 p.m. to 11p.m.
