Peachtree Bikes in Buckhead gutted by fire

ATLANTA -- The fire that left one business gutted and three others damaged could have been caused by a Christmas light display.

Crowds gathered outside the strip mall on Peachtree Road near Rumson Road to watch firefighters battle the 1-alarm blaze Wednesday night.

Those witnesses told 11Alive's Keith Whitney they believe the fire was sparked by a neon light Christmas display. One witness said he saw sparks on the lights shortly before the fire.

When 11Alive asked the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department about the claims, Chief Kelvin Cochran said the cause was still under investigation.

Preliminary assessments show damage to a car rental shop, chocolatier and a leather goods shop. Peachtree Bikes, the store with the light display, is being called a total loss.  Authorities say the fire was held back by a firewall but nearby businesses suffered smoke damage.

Peachtree Bikes posted a message on their Facebook page: "We will survive. Thanks for all your support. Come see us at our Sandy Springs location. Buckhead will reopen. Just not tonight. Or tomorrow."

Several viewers and witnesses took video and photos at the scene and sent them to 11Alive. If you see breaking news, send it to us at news@11Alive.com. Send photos to photos@11Alive.com
