Catalyst 14.6 beta: AMD abbandona il supporto a Windows 8

Nuovo importante aggiornamento per i driver AMD destinati alle schede della famiglia Radeon e alle APU di ultima generazione. L'azienda americana ha infatti reso disponibili per il download i driver Catalyst 14.6 beta, con i quali vengono introdotte varie ottimizzazioni prestazionali per i titoli Watch Dogs e Murdered: Soul Sospect.

La principale novità di questi driver riguarda però una differente gestione delle configurazioni multimonitor Eyefinity. Non è ora più necessario avere a disposizione monitor dalla risoluzione identica per un setup Eyefinity ma si possono abbinare display con risoluzione differente tra di loro. Sono 3 le modalità presenti: Fill utilizza tutta la superficie a disposizione dei display; Fit adatta la risoluzione verticale degli schermi su quella del monitor dalla risoluzione più bassa tra quelli presenti, mentre Expand opera nell'opposta direzione.

Da segnalare anche come con la versione 14.6 beta dei driver Catalyst AMD abbia scelto di non supportare più il sistema oeprativo Windows 8, richiedendo obbligatoriamente l'aggiornamento gratuito a Windows 8.1 per poter installare i nuovi driver. Known Issues   

• Running Watch Dogs with a R9 280X CrossFire configuration may result in the application running in CrossFire software compositing mode
• Enabling Temporal SMAA in the AMD Catalyst Control center under a CrossFire configuration when playing Watch Dogs will result in Flickering
• AMD CrossFire configurations with Eyefinity enabled will see application stability with BattleField 4 or Thief when running Mantle
• Catalyst Install Manager text is covered by Express/Custom radio button text
• Express Uninstall does not remove C:\Program Files\(AMD or ATI) folder
