(WXIA) -- According to a blog post on NBCSports.com, former Atlanta Braves pitcher Pasqual Perez was killed during a home invasion in his native Dominican Republic on Thursday.
The report quotes two Spanish language newspapers, Hoy and Diario Libre, as saying Perez was killed by an intruder early Thursday morning.

Perez compiled a 67-68 record with a 3.44 ERA and 822 strikeouts in 1244.1 innings for the Pirates, Braves, Expos and Yankees between 1980 and 1991.
He may be best known for missing a start for the Braves when he got lost on the way to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium and actually circled Interstate 285. According to NBC Sports, the irony was that it was actually supposed to be his third start for the Braves, which meant he had to have been at the park previously.
Perez was arrested during the '83-'84 offseason for cocaine possession in the Dominican Republic. He later was suspended for violating the league's drug policy, which ultimately ended his baseball career.
