U.S. Marshals arrested Thomas Paige at the Carrington Court Apartments on Club Drive in Duluth Wednesday. The 36 year old was taken into custody at the home of an associate, who has not been charged.
Paige is accused of seriously injuring Clayton County Police Officer Michael Hooks while he was responding to a reported burglary last Wednesday. Police believe Paige was trying to steal copper and scrap metal from an abandoned building on Old Dixie Road near Interstate 75. He had been arrested for copper theft before.
Maj. Rick Webster said when Ofc. Hooks tried to chase Paige down on foot, the suspect hit him with his black Chevrolet and took off. Hooks was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with head injuries.
Paige's disappearance sparked a days long manhunt and SWAT standoff in DeKalb County. The latter turned out to be a hoax by a 911 caller who said the suspect was holed up in a house that turned out to be empty.
