Pedestrian hit and killed in Marietta

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A 79-year-old woman was hit by a car and killed in Cobb County Wednesday evening.

Maria Roxo was struck shortly after 7 p.m. on Roswell Road near Old Canton Road in Marietta.

Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said Roxo stepped into the road and was hit by a Nissan 300ZX. She was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police do not expect to file charges against the 25-year-old driver who hit Roxo.
