Patrick Lamar Burr was convicted last month of shooting 24-year-old Arthur "Dwayne" Moses Jr., to death.
Burr, 41, admitted in court that he killed Moses. He told jurors that he dated the victim's fiancee, Fredericka Washington McCrary, off and on for 11 years. The two broke up for good in October 2012.
On Dec. 30, 2012, Burr visited McCrary's Marietta home to give her some money. Later, McCrary called him to say she was engaged to Moses, according to court documents.
Burr returned to the house, where McCrary and Burr were sitting in her car in the driveway.
"I walked in front of my truck and started shooting," Burr said on the stand.
Moses tried to run, but was hit five times in the back and died. No one else was hurt.
Burr was arrested at the scene and had been in the Cobb County Jail ever since.
On Oct. 18, a jury found Burr guilty of voluntary manslaughter, felony murder, aggravated assault and firearm possession. He was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years.
