According to police, Burton shot the child after the child's father intervened to stop a mugging.

DeKalb County Police, DeKalb CEO and the DeKalb County Sheriff's office held a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the arrest.

Officials from the Sheriff's office credit the arrest to mounting pressure on the suspect, offering a reward and disseminating numerous BOLO warnings.

The suspect is currently being detained in the DeKalb County Jail.
