JONESBORO, Ga. -- A Clayton County school bus was involved in an accident in Jonesboro Thursday morning.
The wreck happened at around 7:30 a.m. on Tara Boulevard at Tara Road.
Dispatchers said a car was heading south on Tara Boulevard when the driver lost control and hit the bus. The car overturned; the driver was seriously injured and was taken by helicopter to Henry Medical Center.
Clayton County Schools spokeswoman Vicki Gavalas said 13 Rex Mill Middle School students were aboard the bus. Four suffered minor injuries; one was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, while the rest were taken to Southern Regional Medical Center.
The bus driver was also injured; Gavalas said the driver made sure the injured students were taken to the hospital before she accepted medical attention.
Gavalas said the remaining students were taken to school by another bus. Counselors are available at the school to talk to the students.
Tara Boulevard was shut down as crews worked to clear the scene.
